Getting out and having a fun night with that special someone is an important aspect of any relationship, but if you’ve run out of date ideas in the Wichita area, then we’re here to help. There are plenty of things to do in Wichita for couples. From history to the theater to natural beauty, there’s always something interesting to try and experience.
Want to try something new? On a budget and need some suggestions for an incredible date on the cheap side? Or do you and the one you love need a romantic hideaway where it feels like you’re the only two on the planet? You’re in luck! We love exploring all Wichita has to offer. So, here are our top five suggestions for an innovative and original date night for you and your honey around Wichita.
1. Romantic Walk by the River
All of our favorite romantic movie montages involve a couple strolling hand in hand without a care in the world. Not only is Wichita full of amazing spots perfect for an evening stroll, but these free offerings make an ideal date night when you’re trying to save a little money. Although we love the incredible “Liquid Fireworks” display at the Fountains at WaterWalk, it’s only open spring through fall.
For that reason, our favorite romantic walk location is Keeper of the Plains. The 44-foot statue sits right where the Arkansas and Little Arkansas Rivers meet. You and your sweetheart can admire this celebration of Native American culture as you walk the pedestrian suspension bridge or the trail along the river. And every evening, no matter what season, a ring of fire briefly flares up around the Keeper giving the night a beautiful glow.
2. Get Your Art On
Wichita boasts many cool museums. You can learn about the city’s rich history as a pioneering and cattle community, something we can really appreciate. But the art scene is both dynamic and exciting to experience.
There’s no better place to visit and experience Wichita’s art scene than at CityArts. You can enjoy their first-floor gallery for free, and you and your date can sign up for one of their many art classes and learn something new together.
3. Go Star Gazing
There’s nothing quite like gazing up at the heavenly bodies with the one you love by your side. Get up close and personal with some incredible celestial views at the Lake Afton Public Observatory in nearby Goddard.
You can take a peek through their telescope, and you can explore several exhibits and events all year round. Plus, since they’re only open in the evenings, it makes the perfect date night.
4. See a Flick the Old-Fashioned Way
We love the old films. You can experience movies like they did in the good ol’ days in Wichita. At the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Wichita, you’ll find exciting concerts, and every year, they also feature a film series with some of our favorite classic movies.
However, for a truly old-timey experience, it’s all about the drive-in. Although it’s only open March through December, the Starlite Drive-In makes you feel like you’re the lead in “Grease.” You and your date will have a blast at one of America’s last movie screens of this kind.
5. A Romantic Restaurant for Two
For the perfect romantic dinner, head over to Chisholm’s American Beef and Ale House. Their menu features farm-to-table ingredients from local producers. Each dish is a vibrant exploration of classic flavors, and with shareable options, it’s a great way to enjoy a variety of incredible samplings together.
You can get a seat by the glow of the fireplace or even opt for a private dining room for a true getaway. Make your reservation at this date night restaurant today!
